Music Therapy and Healing Through Singing Bowls

Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that harnesses the power of music to improve the quality of life and is utilized in many ways, one being singing bowls. Singing bowls are a type of bell that vibrate and produce a rich, deep tone when played. They are one of the strongest musical instruments for healing with sound therapy and vibrations.

Who uses Singing Bowls Today?

Singing bowls have been used for centuries, and have been incorporated in today's music without us even knowing. Could this be the reason why some of the music that we listen to has the ability to change our mood and energy? Or why we feel refreshed after listening to certain songs or sounds?

Artist Jhenè Aiko is known for her spiritual energy and incorporating singing bowls into her music to help others heal. In her most recent album, Chilombo, Aiko used the vibrational hum of crystal alchemy singing bowls into every track. According to Aiko, the crystal alchemy singing bowls were made from gemstones such as rubies and diamonds and were infused with materials like platinum. She explained, “All of these different elements and properties contribute to their healing factors.”

Aiko herself has been healed using singing bowls and incorporating them into her daily life. Artists like Sza and Erykah Badu have also been known for using them as a means of relaxation, healing, and meditation.

How Music Therapy and Singing Bowls Work

To understand how a person can be healed through singing bowls, we must first recognize the connection our bodies have to the sounds that we hear. It's actually quite scientific. We can adjust the electrical frequencies of our brains and bodies using unique, resonant sound instruments.

Music therapy uses different aspects of sound to improve your emotional and physical well-being. Singing bowls are a common practice in music therapy because they are used for healing, meditation, and to promote the following:

  • 1. Reducing stress and anxiety significantly.

  • 2. Lowering anger and blood pressure.

  • 3. Improving circulation and increasing blood flow.

  • 4. Deep relaxation and pain relief.

  • 5. Increasing mental and emotional clarity.

  • 6. Promoting stillness, happiness and well being.

The future of music therapy and singing bowls is bright and I predict more artists incorporating this art around the globe into many different genres of music.

Have you tried meditating to a singing bowl, if so, how did you feel afterwards?
