How To Plan Your Next Release

In today’s day and age, with all the marketing and promotional strategies, planning the before and after of your next release is a must. There are some things to keep in mind once your track is ready to be shared with the world like who your listeners are or what platforms to share your music on?

Once your track is ready, you will have to choose a distribution company that meets your requirements. Music distribution is the process of getting music from the artist and making it available to the public for streaming or purchasing. There are a ton of distribution companies out there like DistroKid, The Orchard, Spinnup, and many more!

We live in a world where most things are easily accessible. As an independent artist, you need to build an audience. With the market being saturated, you want to make sure that you start by releasing Singles before you dive into releasing an entire album. Grow your following to a couple of hundred loyal fans. You know what they say, “Slow and steady wins the race”.

Planning the post-release is one of the most important steps. Once your song is out there, it is your job to promote it. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Create a Spotify pre-save a month before the single comes out. That way you have 30 days to share your pre-save link to various outlets.

  2. Share the behind-the-scenes of the song-making and the recording on YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms. Share your experience of what it was like recording the song or what the song means to you. Connect with people on a personal level.

  3. Film Instagram Reels and TikToks once the song releases. Ask your friends to create and share.

  4. Playlists are a big mood-setter, if I may. So, find playlists that your song matches to and see if there is a way for you to share your music with the playlist.

  5. Share a live version or an acoustic version of the song a couple of weeks after the release.

I know this may seem like a lot, but this is the grunt work you have to do to achieve your goals. Keep in mind that there is no easy way to succeed. You may hit some bumps in the road but the harder you, work the luckier you get.
