3 Low Budget Ways to Promote your Music

Promoting your music the right way is the key to getting your music heard. A record label has a budget of thousands of dollars per song to market and promote it to make sure it reaches as many people as possible. They also have the resources to hire teams of people to reach their goals. When you’re an up and coming artist, you might not have the funds required to promote your music the way labels do. So, here are three low-budget ways to promote your music.

Learn to do it all. Labels have the money to hire numerous people to create a single-single. This could be from hiring a producer to making the music for an artist to a photographer/graphic designer to creating an album art like no other, to teams of marketing strategists and music promoters. Until you get to a point in your career where you can hire a team to do these things for you, you definitely need to learn to do things on your own. You don’t need to be an experienced producer to produce a decent demo to showcase your vision. Today we live in a world where there are so many free resources you can utilize, be it Canva, where you can create some of the best artworks, or Youtube, where you can learn anything for free. However, if you need some sort of structure, you can always sign up to websites like Udemy that can help you polish your skills.

This brings me to my next point. Do not skimp on the quality of music. Quality trumps quantity, anytime. A layman can differentiate between good versus bad quality music. So, make sure that you are investing your money wisely. Rather than paying $100 to promote your music, use that money to find a good producer and mixer to take your song to the next level. This can help with organic growth which will lead to building strong connections.

You might already know this but it doesn’t hurt to reiterate it, utilize every social media platform. Thousands of people went viral posting videos of their dogs sleeping on their couches. Social Media, if used correctly, can be a great tool to promote your music. Your mentality should be that if your song doesn’t do well on one social media platform, it might go viral on another social media platform. It all depends on the algorithm, but your responsibility is to just put yourself out there and let the magic happen.

When you’re going to start putting yourself out there, you will meet people along the way who you will build strong connections with. And you never know who might help you catch the break you need.
